Had the same problem as Alexander Krivács Schrøder: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/13966491/aftmax.png with Ubuntu 8.04, no changes in Gnome or Inkscape. I have to maximize the window by hand. This problem occur only with Inkscape, so I think it´s not a Ubuntu theme issue.
