Public bug reported: I am not sure exactly what is the problem is, but somehow checkgmail does not receive information as the network connection changes. For instance, if I hibernate my computer and log back in, gaim is up and running in a matter of seconds, whereas checkgmail just displays an error icon in the tray. Maybe integration with the dbus or Network Manager would be a good feature if it was not already implemented.
Gaim is able to do this I believe, I tested it and it seems to work.
