I'm having the same problem on Gutsy, and also had it on Feisty with the
same hardware - system boots OK, but a freeze happens on the on-board
Ethernet, some USB and all IDE drives. This takes a day or so after I
connect an internal USB flash card reader, and hasn't happened for over
10 days with this device disconnected. Relevant dmesg output is:

Kernel 2.6.22-14-generic was booted without any special parameters.
Hardware is a Gigabyte P35-DS3R motherboard with one SATA and two IDE
drives, with SATA set to IDE emulation in BIOS - the SATA is on the
Intel ICH9R chipset, IDE on JMicron. Card reader is an Enlight 26-in-1
card reader.

Let me know if you need me to try something or provide more info - I
also have logs from the freezes under Feisty if that helps.
