Jonathan, This was unexpected today... Pretty old bug... I haven't done an OEM install since I reported the bug so I cannot really update this bug. But I know that when the OEM install created the new user I was unable to access sound or mounts without root.
Problem is probably in /etc/skel but I am not going to go that deep with this one.. I just reinstalled...
