Summary: we found a case, where vbetool breaks resuming the machine,
whereas the VBERestore code in the xorg i810 driver manages to restore
the inital text mode using the option "VBERestore" true.
I think it is too late for edgy to consider this workaround. I think
vbetool should be fixed to work on an R50e.
** Also affects: vbetool (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: Unconfirmed
** Summary changed:
- R50e Resume requires "VBERestore" "true" in xorg.conf
+ vbetool breaks resume on R50e
** Description changed:
My machine: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/ThinkpadR50e
Suspending results in a suspended machine with the blinking moon symbol
first, and the LED light if the machine has suspended. No problem here.
On resume, the moon keeps on blinking, but never stops. There is some
HDD activity (a very short flackering every few seconds), but nothing
more. Switching VTs doesn't work. I can however use the MagicSysRQ
reboot the machine.
- It seems that this can be fixed by setting POST_VIDEO=false in
- /etc/default/acpi-support.
+
+ disabling vbetool by setting POST_VIDEO=false in /etc/default/acpi-support
AND using the VBERestore option of the i810 xorg driver makes the machine
suspend/resume as normal.
