I get this error when I try to run the Hardware Information program in
8.04 -- this is an upgrade from freshly-updated 7.10, I upgraded by
using the alt-CD distro disc, and I have every reason to believe this
is a Genuine Ubuntu system and certainly believe the Hardware
Information program in the System/Preferences menu is ALSO 'Genuine'
Ubuntu

but it crashes on startup, and when the dialog says "Report Problem..."
I click that expecting to be presented with a report form, but instead I
get ...

Problem in hal-device-manager

The problem cannot be reported

This is not a genuine Ubuntu package

the only offered option is "Close"

I have no third-party software, it all comes from aptitude, although I
do have the universe packages so as to support the Dell Inspiron 1521
graphics and network hardware, but I did not realize this should taint
my system such that I am no longer allowed to use Report Problem buttons
;)
