Public bug reported: Linux ubuntu64 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Have compiled snd-virtuoso module for this soundcard. Have followed all the instructions and recommendations on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting?action=show&redirect=DebuggingSoundProblems. Have installed the same card, on the same box, but with separate harddrive, in Ubuntu Gutsy 32bit (compiling from the same Alsa Project source) and Windows. Every effort with Ubuntu Hardy 64bit has failed, including alsa packages in the 1.0.16 group and the Clemens Ladisch pre-release driver (alsa-driver-20080415). aplay -l shows no soundcard. lspci -v shows the card. sudo modprobe snd-virtuoso is successful. /etc/modules has the right module appended. The right user appears in the sound group. alsamixer returns the following: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory I have attempted a purge and reinstall of linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils - this makes no difference. alsaconf detects the card and completes successfully, but opening alsamixer immediately afterwards gives the result noted above.
