Public bug reported: Binary package hint: file-roller
#36498 provided a best-effort fix for the use of 'unrar' and friends with non-local files. gvfs has brought with it the gvfs-fuse-daemon providing a bridge between the real filesystem and GNOME's idea of 'remote folders'. This daemon is installed as part of the default system. #36498 is no longer adequate for modern usage. Copying a couple of megs of .ZIP for local extraction is passable, but it is completely unworkable when dealing with GB of remote .rar set. file-roller should be intelligent enough to spot a "protocol://servername/path/to/file" prefix on a filename coming in from Nautilus or wherever and automatically switch to opening "~/.gvfs/protocol on servername/path/to/file" instead.
