Public bug reported:

At about 9:00 PM EST on Oct 17 I upgraded from Dapper to Edgy using "sudo
update-manager -c -d" and when I rebooted the next morning it got hung during
the boot process. When I tried the failsafe kernel it last displayed "Begin:
Running /scripts/local-top", then listed my harddrive info, and just sat there.
I could Ctrl-PgUp to see the rest of the output, and ctrl-alt-del did reboot,
so it didn't feel like a kernel panic, but I did let it sit for about 15
minutes and it didn't do anything.

I am running on an AMD64 and it was the 2.6.17-10-generic kernel.

** Affects: Ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
