Hi John You say you're trying to run from the CD until you know what's going on, so do you mean that when you put the live CD in, you get nothing but a brown screen? Is it plain brown? If you have a digital camera, could you photograph any stages it goes through and attach pictures?
Normally, if you reboot with the live CD in, you should get a menu offering you various options, then if you select to "Try or Install Ubuntu" (or something like that, I forget the exact wording) it will load into a normal desktop, without a login prompt. If it's not doing that, and you don't have any unusual hardware (what you've put sounds OK, but you might want to give more detail), then it's most likely that there's a problem with the CD image--in which case I think the only thing would be to download a fresh copy and burn it again. If you can get to the CD main menu, try the "verify CD" option. -- brown screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236236 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
