Public bug reported:

Upgraded to HH and was happily using it for some time. However, the fact that
stock kernel is using only 3.6 GB of RAM instead of 4 GB, which I have, was
bugging me.
So after some googling I installed the 2.6.24-17-server kernel, as it's
compiled with HIMEM support. After reboot, Ubuntu is now using 4 GB of RAM and
all things more or less work
as expected.

The problem.

When I click on Gnomes Log Out Button in order to shutdown my PC, instead of
usual dialog box offering me to reboot/shutdown/etc, desktop icons and ALL
panels disappear. What is left is plain desktop background.
So now I have to Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to get the login window and then use button
there to shutdown the PC.

So there's obliviously something wrong with nvidia driver / compiz
(which I'm using) .

I can add any other needed info in case devs need it.
