Public bug reported: I am using Ubuntu 8.04 (gnome).
Situation In trying to install using Ubuntu Live CD, there is a step that asks to select the geographical location. It presents a world map, and a list from which the city can be chosen. It is convenient for residents of large countries with a single time-zone to select from the map. When trying to select from the map, the map slides under the cursor. So it is very difficult to accurately select even a large country. If you move towards any direction, the map moves with an acceleration in the opposite direction. This was much more usable in 7.10. I had posted it in Ubuntu Forums, but could not get a solution. The thread is http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=812006. Following are reasons why it is so very annoying. 1. It becomes a differential equation of the 3rd degree, without a solution in my opinion, to accurately pin point a country. 2. You expect the ground under your feet to be stable. There is a reason why it is called "Terra Firma". 3. Try climbing a small, light boat and float it in water. While standing in it, try to jump to a specific location. As you jump, boat moves. So it becomes hard to jump to a specific location. The instability can be disconcerting or even scary. The skill can be acquired after hard work but acquiring such a skill to be able to install Ubuntu is pointless. 4. There soon would be an Olympics event to install Ubuntu. thanks Bingo ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Location selector in Ubuntu installer inconvenient https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236835 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
