Public bug reported:

System:
Kubuntu 8.04 x64 version, ATI x1300 card running proprietary driver (version
installed by Drivers Manager).

What has been done?
I'd played Nexuiz 3D game and occasionally encountered a system deadlock. Then
I occasionally encountered same deadlock again.
Graphic stops responding but system not dies completely (maybe because 2 CPU
cores?).
Audio still plays and at least minimal system activity is possible
(Alt-SysRq-S and other emergency shortcuts are working). However attempt to
switch to console or restart X or whatever else fails.Keyboard leds are not
changing states, screen displays some gray stuff and switching to text-mode
console fails, as well as any attempt to kill nexuiz and resume normal system
operation.Emergency sync worked though and I'm not aware if low-level system
activity like daemons was alive (not tested this).

Cause:
I occasionally found kern.log file according to these deadlocks and it
contains valid crash data.It contains some useful information about deadlocks.
File is attached.I'd stripped down some unrelated information (like system
startup, for privacy reasons) leaving just "interesting" (deadlock) time.
After last dump record system has been rebooted (no further records for this
session).

Also, I detected yet another ATI-related error in CURRENT session - atieventsd
has just miserably crashed:
Jun 3 15:47:01 ath64 kernel: [65933.127582] atieventsd[5738]: segfault at 10
rip 7f18da66230f rsp 7fffe2b3a190 error 4

P.S. Yes, I know Ubuntu can't do anything to fix proprietary drivers
(I'm really hate proprietary stuff because of this fact) but at least
ATI issued slightly newer drivers.Maybe they're somehow better than this
outdated stuff?
