Binary package hint: synaptic
Hi,
that's a wish, not a bug:
Synaptic displays only the "Installed Version" and "Latest Version" in
the main window's package list. I basically gives the choice of to
upgrade or not to upgrade.
On the other hand, ubuntu has additional archives called hardy-proposed and
hardy-backports that are not advisable to be used in common, but sometimes
necessary. The ubuntu-recommended way to handle this is to use pinning in
/etc/apt/preferences to set these archives to a lower priority and to install
packages only on request with something like apt-get -t hardy-backports xyz
Unfortunately, synaptic does not have an equivalent to this command line (has
it?).
So it would be nice if synaptic had an optional third column after
"Installed" and "Latest" that would list the even-newer-than-latest
version if pinning is used and gave the option to install this manually,
i.e. not with "Mark All Upgrades".
