Please try your steps to reproduce, and try one last thing afterwards:
1. Change brightness in kde-guidance-powermanager applet to 40%
2. Everything will be fine
3. Lock your screen > Main menu > Lock session
4. Screen goes black
5. Move your mouse and type in your password and the screen will go back to
100% brightness
6. Press brightness down once; you should get a percentage reading in a small
pop-up, what does this say? And does it go to a brightness level that match the
reported?
