Oh ho. I found out why the download manager crashed. so is the bookmarks and whatever else that require disk access. My home folder was out of space. I'd just noticed that I have 0 bytes free when I was looking and searching for firefox files to delete! After cleaning out the $home folder and setting my BT download folder onto the shared NTFS folder, the addon manager and downloading started working!
