Update: I now tried this out with an access point within reach. I could
connect to it all right, so this problem does not prevent the device
from functioning. If it was in use, shutdown will not have
NetworkManager still running, but instead wpa_supplicant and ip, the
latter flushing routes on the wlan device. Probably NetworkManager
transferred ownership of the device once the connection was established?
