This is a me too for zanonmark's comment (altough in reverse, as Charles Twardy). I am using Hardy, been using Gutsy and Feisty. All of them had the same issue. Perhaps it has something to do with having upgraded and not made a fresh install? Or something to do with my locale? (btw my LANG variable is set to es_MX.UTF-8)
I've also tried changing /etc/papersize, using the system-config-printer tool, but nothing helped. So, I've had to change the papersize every time i open a document for printing To make it clear: If I just send a newly opened document to the printer, it goes as A4 paper. I have to change the paper size in the File/Printer settings menu (or something like that, my menu is in spanish) and change the paper size to US Letter.
