Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: evolution
Before submitting this bug, I read through bug #213404 and decided to
submit a new bug anyway. The problem I'm having is a bit different than
the other bug that was reported, and I have figured out a "workaround"
that allows me to control the problem without restarting or killing
evolution.
*note: if I try to "X" out of Evolution once the high CPU utilization
starts, then the application hangs until I kill the Evolution process.
If I go to File > Quit instead, then Evolution terminates gracefully.
So, my high CPU (100%) utilization does not occur when simply reading
messages. It occurs when sending email or replying to email I've already
sent. If I don't reply/send emails then the exchange plugin behaves
itself.
My situation is similar to the user who reported bug #213404 in the
sense that it doesn't matter if I am replying through my exchange-
connected account or the other two IMAP/SMTP accounts I have configured
in Evolution. If I have an exchange-enabled account, then I have a
problem with CPU usage when I try to send messages. If I remove the
exchange-enabled account, I don't.
Once the problem starts, the offending process is actually the gnome-
keyring-daemon and not the Evolution application itself. Once that
process goes out of control, I can restore the sanity of my environment
by toggling between "Work Offline" and "Work Online" from within
Evolution. This seems to consistently remedy the problem.
I'm using Hardy Heron and Evolution 2.22.2.
Thanks for your help.
