This was intentional, as the redirect to /apache2-default/ appeared to confuse the heck out of users when they went to edit their website (which should be in /var/www)
Having the default site in a subdirectory (because we really can't/shouldn't install and overwrite an index.html in /var/www) is really the best compromise here.
