Thanks for reporting this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better.

1) The hostnames of other computers are only automatically recognised if
they are known by the DNS server that is configured (usually
automatically through DHCP). The problem is likely that you use your
ISPs DNS server that does not know the hostnames of your computers
(especially not the private IPs).

2) I am not sure why you choose to use the same domain as your ISP. That
will just lead to problems, since your computers are not likely part of
their DNS server. This might lead to IP packages not delivered correctly
back, therefore to the hanging you experience.

Please provide more information:

1) your "/etc/resolv.conf" file
2) output of "ifconfig -a"
3) output of "hostname"
4) the output of traceroute to the repository archive you use.
5) any other information that could help us.
