Hi,
I'm not sure this is really a bug. I coud be wrong but it sounds as
though you had a printer installed named "generic postscript" which was
set as default. As you point out, once you set the new printer to
default everything worked as you wanted it to.
If you still believe this to be a bug, let me know which version of
Ubuntu you're using and describe the steps I might take to reproduce it.
