Binary package hint: base-installer
When Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop is installed on a multi boot system it fails to
prompt the user to ask what to do with the boot loader during the
install process.
It simply changes the boot loader configuration to be within Ubuntu &
makes ubuntu the primary OS.
This is completely unacceptable & more like M$ behaviour, it is not good
neighbourly policy.
At a minimum the installer should detect the existing configuration and
offer options
1/ Install new Boot loader
2/ Add Ubuntu to existing boot loader configuration
3/ do nothing
Up to 6.06 install the installer asked what to install for boot loader
and one option was no nothing & the install then did not complete
correctly.
In my instance the other OS was Fedora8 and Ubuntu imported boot
settings for the OS even though I set partition manager to "do not use"
for the Fedora OS
In all other respects the Ubuntu install was very good and complements
to everyone concerned.
The boot loader aspect though has made my blood boil
