Thanks for your fast answer, I didn't notice the lspci, I think that this will be enough since the graphic card is clearly identified. I added it to the bug description to help developers.
** Description changed: Binary package hint: usplash After installation, screen is messed and computer seems unresponsive. To reproduce 0) Install Hardy Beta from Live-CD Installation proceeds normally to finish. 1) "Do you want to continue using live-cd or reboot?" Reboot The bug: Screen is messed. It's full of green stripes and colorful pixels, looks like random memory contents. CD is ejected. Computer looks crashed. Typical user (yes, I tested this with many users earlier) will hard reset the computer by pressing power button. Users are left unsure if installation was successful or failed, or if OS is in usable condition. Messed screen obscures the "Press ENTER to continue" message. Other keys don't seem to do anything. Should be easy to fix, as it works correctly on some earlier versions of Ubuntu. Also, image is displayed correctly in Hardy Beta on CD-ROM boot menu (syslinux?), Ubuntu loading (the orange progress indicator) and the text mode that is shown briefly before Ubuntu loading. Tested with Hardy Beta Desktop amd64, HP-Compaq dc7700, 19" flat panel.
