The old ones are obsolete and the adoption is slowed down because packages were 
not available for a long time.
If you check on packages.debian.org, they are already packaged now. Should not 
be so difficult since the old wrappers were not used by any concrete 
application.

I think it is critical to attract new developers in Gnome which is quite
lacking maintenance resources these days.
