Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: i8kutils

I started noticing that my laptop was getting hot. So I searched around
on the Forums and found i8kutils. I installed the latest version, 1.27,
via apt-get. I then type [i8kfan 1 1] (the command for turning both fans
on slow mode). But this error message comes up: "can't open /proc/i8k:
No such file or directory". I expected it to turn both fans on. I am
using Hardy Heron with the 2.6.24.18 kernel and all updates as of June
10. I have tried to access the proc directory as root (to create the
folder) but Ubuntu wouldn't let me access the folder. I also tried to
use sudo -s and make a directory, but this error message comes up
"mkdir: cannot create directory `i8kfan': No such file or directory". I
can provide additional information if you can give me directions.

** Affects: i8kutils (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
