Since the time of posting, I have added a windowsXP partition to my computer, and am currently dual-booting. The problem is present in windows as well, even moreso. Because of this, I am thinking it is more of a hardware configuration problem than a software bug. I plan on testing the dell-specific package upgrades, even though my problem is not listed on the fixes page. Besides this, I plan on trying to contact dell about the problem to see if they can offer me a solution, but I simply do not have the free time right now. I will update as soon as I can.
