Note: removing the PATA drive allowed the system to boot, but the IDE dvd/cd 
burner would run very very 
slowly (<1.0x). If I use the "all_generic_ide" parameter on the grub menu.lst, 
things would work normally 
(including fast dvd/cd burning).
