Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: update-manager
Since 10 June 2008 I have been having a problem with the Update Manager.
Every time there is an update:
Update manager says there are updates available
I run update manager, it says
Not all updates can be installed
Run a partial upgrade to install as many updates as possible.
This can be caused by:
A previous upgrade which didnt complete
Problems with some of the installed software
Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
Normal changes of a pre-release version of Ubuntu
The list of updates (in the latest update) is:
evolution-exchange
gnome-cards-data
gnome-games
gnome-games-data
pm-utils
tzdata (not ticked)
xserver-xorg-video-cirrus
xserver-xorg-video-intel
I say, OK, lets do a partial upgrade.
System he say
Not enough free disk space
The upgrade aborts now. The upgrade needs a total of 126M free
space on disk '/boot'. Please free at least an additional 80.3M of
disk space on '/boot'. Empty your Deleted Items folder and remove
temporary packages of former installations using 'sudo apt-get clean'.
/boot is a small separate partition.
david:~$ du -hs /boot = 89M /boot
david:~$ df -h /boot = /dev/sda1 140M 89M 44M 68% /boot
So question is, which of these packages is requiring to write stuff into
/boot? And why am I being persecuted because I choose to use NVIDIAs
graphic package instead of the approved Ubuntu version?
Related but not identical to some similar bug reports with problems with
partial updates.
