Yes, this problem still persists.  I observe the same USB 2.0 failure
mode under "Hardy" Ubuntu 8.04 LTS:  persistent "reset high speed USB
device using ehci_hcd" messages.

This failure occurs for all of:
        2 Gb Memorex TravelDrive
        250 Gb Western Digital Passport WD2500XMS
        750 Gb Seagate 3.5" External ST3750640CB-RK

Adding "options usbcore autosuspend=-1" to /etc/modprobe.d/usb-core-
options (followed by "sudo update-initramfs -u") is a reasonable
workaround.  However, it still requires unplugging of USB devices during
reboots.  A better fix still would seem to be in order.
