Public bug reported:

in hardy after resuming from suspend (to ram) the sound seems to be
muted. making a small change to the 'Master' and 'PCM' channels in gnome
volume control, or muting and unmuting them, restores sound. it does not
work to just change one of them.

suspend did not work in feisty or before (skipped gutsy)

it seems similar to Bug #125086

00:01.4 Multimedia audio controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS]
SiS PCI Audio Accelerator (rev 01)

gnome-volume-control crashes quite frequently with the message "gnome-
volume-control: simple.c:369: snd_mixer_selem_get_playback_volume:
Assertion `(elem)->type == SND_MIXER_ELEM_SIMPLE' failed." but i am not
sure if this is related.

** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
