Ubuntu release: 8.04 Desktop for i386
Hardware: Acer Aspire 3024WLMi
When enabling the wireless function of the computer with the module
acerhk and using the wireless network (chipset: BCM4318), the system
completely freezes after a couple of moments.
Steps to reproduce the problem:
- Boot Ubuntu 8.04 from CD
- Install and activate restricted wlan firmware for driver b43 (as suggested by
ubuntu)
- Load acerhk kernel module (modprobe acerhk)
- Enable wlan chip (echo 1 | sudo tee > /proc/driver/acerhk/wirelessled)
- Connect to an access point (I used WPA1 personal)
- Browse the web with Firefox3
=> After a random number of instants the system completely freezes
Some thoughts:
- This problem did not exist in the last Ubuntu release
- Is this a known problem?
- Is there a way to get kernel error messages from a freezing system?
