Dear plumb16001, this is normal behaviour in linux: by default the linux
desktop does not have any icons like windows does (like "My Computer",
"Recycle Bin", "My Documents", "Internet Explorer" etc).
You can add a shortcut (called "launcher") to any program you want from
the applications menu, just right-click on it and select "Add this
launcher to desktop".
