Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: mount
1) Ubuntu:
8.04 Hardy
Kernel:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.24-18-generic ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) (gcc version 4.2.3 (Ubuntu
4.2.3-2ubuntu7)) #1 SMP Wed May 28 20:27:26 UTC 2008
All packages are updated to their latest versions
2) Package:
mount 2.13.1-5ubuntu2
3) I expected:
the movie to mount
4) What Happened
A friend burned a movie of me (on a DVD + R) playing football on his
Vista box. upon inserting the disc into my ubuntu box, I noticed that it
did not automount. A manual mount returns the following:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo mount /dev/scd0 /home/ma/tmp -r
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/scd0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
dmesg | tail returned the following
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dmesg | tail

[ 3128.781388] UDF-fs: No partition found (1)
to make a really long, boring story short,
1) Changing fstab entries and command line options do nothing.
2) I downloaded the udftools package with no effect.
3) it IS a legit disc, so this is not a DRM issue
4) the disc is fine - The disc plays flawlessly in Vista, and in hardware
players
5) the drive and multimedia software are fine - I can play CDs, ISO dvds, and
commercial DVDs perfectly
6) it seems this problem is not specific to Hardy or even Ubuntu. My fedora PC
returns the same error, and online research indicates that users of previous
versions of ubuntu and other linuxes have the same problem
7) Older UDF discs can still be played
It might have something to do with multisession mode, but I have no way of
telling.
I asked my friend if he used multisession mode. He said he "pushed the burn
button", and has no idea what the app was called.
