Strangely, I think this may actually be related to Parallels. I just realized that this seems to happen shortly after opening Parallels. It is pretty unstable on Hardy, and I think whatever corruption it is causing is manifesting this way. I would forget this bug. I do not think it is really related to Ubuntu. Parallels is working on a Hardy- compatible version, so that may be my answer.
