I have not observed this proplem since one of the updates.
Either the problem has been fixed, or it is masked by another one:
The same user now gets logged out intermittently, and when he logs back in,
only the non-composite kde window decorator gets loaded - no compiz.
I will first have to look into this, as soon as I catch up with other work.
I had spent a ton of time on another problem that was even more serious
(intermittent screen blanking)
As it turned out, it was a problem with the monitor.
