Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: apport
1) $ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.04
Release: 8.04
2) $ apt-cache policy apport
apport:
Installed: 0.108.2
Candidate: 0.108.2
Version table:
*** 0.108.2 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
0.108 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages
$ uname -r
2.6.24-19-generic
3) I expected to find crash reports in /var/crash
4) I installed apport, and enabled it by setting 'enabled=1' in
/etc/default/apport, and then rebooted.
It looks like it is enabled:
$ cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
|/usr/share/apport/apport %p %s %c
The kernel logs errors on SIGSEGV:
[ 260.641613] tripplite_usb[5763]: segfault at 0000001d eip b7e5c4ac
esp bfaebf08 error 4
But nothing shows up in /var/crash, and the inode usage time on
/usr/share/apport/apport doesn't update.
I don't think we are doing anything special in the 'nut' package to
inhibit crash reporting, but for completeness:
$ apt-cache policy nut
nut:
Installed: 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7
Candidate: 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7
Version table:
*** 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7 0
