** Summary changed: - OpenOffice Impress crashes on Import->Picture->From File... + OpenOffice Impress crashes on Insert->Picture->From File...
** Description changed: Binary package hint: openoffice.org Hi, all. This seems like such an obvious bug, there must be something specific causing it or it would have been reported before... I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 on a Thinkpad G41. The package openoffice.org- impress is version 1:2.4.0-3ubuntu6. I have a clean ground-up install of 8.04, plus some extra packages installed through Synaptic, plus a few small hardware-related config tweaks. To reproduce the bug: 1. Run OpenOffice Impress. 2. Create a new presentation following the prompts in the wizard, default everything. - 3. When the new presentation appears, go to the menu and select Import->Picture->From File... + 3. When the new presentation appears, go to the menu and select Insert->Picture->From File... - The Import Picture dialog starts to appear, but all I get is the frame. + The Insert Picture dialog starts to appear, but all I get is the frame. The interior is gray with two white rectangles, no controls or widgets. It just wedges there, pretty much. It's possible to close the dialog by clicking on the upper right "X" button. When I do this, the entire application closes and pops up a smaller window. I suspect maybe this is the crash handler, but it also does not paint the interior. I end up having to kill the process from the command line. The rest of Ubuntu functions normally all throughout the crash. I can drag-and-drop image files into the presentation successfully, and generally the rest of the program works as expected. I'm happy to run any tests anyone can suggest to try to narrow this down. Rebooting the computer doesn't help. I also re-installed every package for "openoffice" and "java" in Synaptic, but this also did not help.
