Public bug reported:

$ lspci | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition
Audio Controller (rev 01)

After experiencing intermittent "no sound" problems for several months
while dual booting between Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.04, I finally tracked
down the problem.

If, in Windows, I press the "mute" key on my keyboard, the next time I
reboot into Ubuntu I will have no sound. (this is almost always a warm
reboot, as it's a laptop) So it seems to me that the sound hardware is
being left in some kind of a "mute" state that the Linux driver doesn't
know how to "un-mute" when it loads the sound module.

Let me know if there is any other information I can provide on this.

** Affects: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
