if double clicked, vocal controls mixer shows up as expected.
yet it shows me all sorts of channels which don't exist on my interface.
mono-outputs 1-4 of my interface are shown as stereo outputs, therefore
breaking up the stereo channel routing completely when set to "digital mixer"
mode.

i think the faders would also not complain about having numeric values
documenting their position, otherwise it is difficult to
create balanced panning for left and right channels on an interface like mine.

The fader "Multi Track Volume Rate" seems to have neither a function nor
an effect.

faders "Multi []" through to "Multi 9" are stereo, but are meant to represent
mono channels on the digital mixer of the audio interface.
Then again the interface only has 4 inputs and not 20 or 10, as suggested by
the amount of channels labeled "Multi (n)".

Bottom line:
volume control may want to use envy24control as role model for envy24 based
audio interfaces, or alternatively allow the user to replace it with
envy24control.

perhaps even a possibility to manually load a specific mixer setup for one's
interface may be of help for gnome's volume control.
in that case, users could write, share and improve the layout and routing of
their "volume control" for their respective interfaces themselves!
