The developers have to decide this but I personally didn't run in this problem 
consciously until the Big Buck Bunny project and I have watched many videos. 
Since it only happens with very high resolution videos (much higher than DVD) 
and only if you watch more than one video at a session there is no sever impact 
imho and there is an easy workaround.
The commit is very huge. Maybe a simple fix could be extracted but I guess 
there are things that are more important to spend time one.
Of course if someone could create a simple fix it wouldn't hurt.
