I downloaded the Hardy Heron Live CD, burned and tried it, but it worked only
in "Safe graphics mode". In normal mode X displayed (almost) nothing on my LCD
and some strange flashing textmode on my CRT with vertical lines in all
character shape.
"(almost) nothing" means solid black screen, or after other X starts solid
color (red or purple or something else) screen with some pixel strings in the
top line.
In "Safe graphics mode" i started System/Preferences/Appearance, and tried to
enable Visual Effects but in both modes (Normal and Extra) got the error
message "Desktop effects could not be enabled", which seems to be normal
behavior in safe mode.
I know that it is offtopic, but the Hardy Heron Live CD didn't detect my sound
card (AD198x integrated sound chip on ASUS P5B Deluxe motherboard).
I think, i will wait for the next UBUNTU version, and hope that it will support
my hardware (that P5B Deluxe with NVidia GeForce 7600GS).
In my last report i forgot to mention, that the reason of using batch files to
start Compiz was losing the desktop effects menu item after updating Compiz and
installing CompizConfig.
