After some search here and there (see [1]), on a 32bit architecture, kvm can not serve more than 2047Mb of RAM for a given VM/domain.
To have VM/domain with more than 2Gb of RAM, you _must_ use a 64bit kernel. I added a note on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM.
