** Summary changed: - [Hardy][Gutsy] USB powered USB hard drive not umounted (or ejected) properly: no sound of parking head; disk keeps spinning. + [Hardy][Gutsy] USB powered USB hard drive not ejected properly; disk keeps spinning and internal disk cache maybe not written to disk.
** Description changed: I am afraid that the head of my hard drive is not in secure position - after umount. + after umount. Thunar has an item called "Eject Volume" in right-click + menu of the disk's item in its panel. Thunar can't eject a partition by + "Eject Volume", but it umounts the partition. In one of my Xubuntu 8.04 + machines it gives an error message in that point: 'Failed to eject "320G + Volume". An unknown error occured.' I think it would be more sensible to + umount the parition and eject the associated device, if no paritions of + the device are mounted. - I am using Xubuntu so the file manager is thunar, but I guess the - problem is not restricted to thunar. - - The USB hard disk is Western Digital model WD3200XMS-00 formatted as - ext3. + Tested device: The USB hard disk is Western Digital model WD3200XMS-00 + formatted as ext3. ** Changed in: thunar (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None => thunar ** Visibility changed to: Public -- [Hardy][Gutsy] USB powered USB hard drive not ejected properly; disk keeps spinning and internal disk cache maybe not written to disk. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224628 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
