Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.26-2-generic
Unable to start nvidia module and as result unable to use nvidia driver
for xorg.
I have all needed packages installed:
$ dpkg -l | grep nvidia

As I understand current nvidia driver in ubuntu (169.12) doesn't support
2.6.26 kernel. But nvidia released 173.14.09 which support 2.6.26 well.
