Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: update-manager
Using do-release-upgrade to remotely upgrade x86 Ubuntu Feisty desktop install
failed.
Attached are the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ and the terminal output.
update-manger/update-manager-core version 1:0.81.3 is installed after the
failure, I assume that is the version downloaded to perform the upgrade.
These are the apparent errors in /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log, included to
facilitate easy location of this bug:
2008-06-28 22:23:05,595 ERROR SystemError from cache.commit():
installArchives() failed
2008-06-28 22:17:41,001 ERROR got an error from dpkg for pkg:
'/var/cache/apt/archives/cupsys_1.3.2-1ubuntu7.7_i386.deb': 'subprocess
pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
'
2008-06-28 22:18:02,098 ERROR SystemError from cache.commit(): E:Sub-process
/tmp/tmpD9umBy/backports/usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
On a side note, the terminal output shows a bunch of warnings that seem to
indicate that do-release-upgrade tries to spawn a graphical dialog box which
obviously can't occur without an X display. This is a secondary bug IMO, but
not the one this ticket was opened to note. This output also appears in bug
#228310
