Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: openoffice.org
Autoscroll happens, for example, when you are trying to select multiple
pages of text and you click and drag the mouse to the bottom of the
window; the scroll function activates so that you can select more text.
However, when autoscroll is triggered like this it scrolls so fast that
it is useless unless I want to select the entire rest of the document.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Open a multiple-page document in OpenOffice Writer.
2) Activate autoscroll by attempting to select multiple pages of text through
click-and-drag; or better yet, by attempting to move previously selected text
to a location on another page using click-and-drag.
3) Observe that without careful mouse positioning, it is very difficult to use
autoscroll to scroll to a specific page and location, unless that location is
at the very bottom or the very top of the document (where scrolling stops).
Suggestions:
-> A "smooth scrolling" feature would make Writer's autoscroll function more
usable, but could take significant resources to make this happen.
-> Autoscroll's default scrolling increment could be set to 50% of its current
value, making it easier for the eye to follow the scroll and easier for the
user to stop scrolling at the desired location.
