I crashed three times within 20 minutes of booting this morning - starting with the first just after login.
I then spent some time researching this issue and it seems to be related to the NVidia hardware. I installed envyng-gtk from the Synaptic package manager and ran EnvyNG from the Applications/System Tools menu. I was able to reboot the computer without freezing up and am feeling optimistic about my future with the Hardy Heron. I will report back after a couple of days.
