I tried it, and it does not fix the problem. However, I did notice something interesting: One of the machines where I saw the problem had 128MB RAM, and the other, 256MB. When both machines were upped to 512MB, the problem disappeared. Temporarily reducing the RAM again reintroduced it again. Going back to 512 made it disappear again. It also seems to be irrespective of how much swap there is.
