Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: emacs22
1) Ubuntu 8.04
2) emacs 22.1-0ubuntu10.1
3) when typing, the spacebar should always produce whitespace, and
spaces should appear blank
4) using emacs -nw + gnome-terminal in any major mode with syntax
highlighting (eg. lisp-interaction, html-mode, conf-mode, etc.), spaces
in the 7th, 15th, 23rd, ... (7 + 8*n)th column are "sticky" in that the
cursor does not erase immediately if a non-whitespace character follows.
For example typing (not pasting!) the string:
123456 1234567 1234567 1234567 1234567
at the beginning of a line will produce cursor artifacts between each
set of characters. forcing the window to redraw (eg. by covering it with
another window) will correct the display. the error is not encountered
when emacs is run in a screen session.
** Affects: emacs22 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
